Summer Prints With Dry Pressed Flowers & Herbs

Summer - is the best time for creating handmade prints with pressed flowers… There are so many of them in bloom right now!

In case you don’t know - this kind of print making is a kind of Monotype. It is called so because we use natural pressed flowers, leaves, herbs etc. for creating a one unique print.

To make this print, I applied paint directly onto the transparent plastic plate (future background colour of the print) and onto the pressed flowers as well..

Then the plate with the arranged press flowers on it (painted side of flowers up) is covered with slightly wet pastel paper and pressed.

I do not have a printing press at home so when creating prints at home I do it by hand using simple table spoon.

That is what I’ve got at the end…

For all these prints I used oil paints. But, i

f you want to try making floral prints and choose oil paints - you need to get reed of excessive oils first.

Just put some amount of oil paint between the pieces of folded newspaper for 30 min. After that you can use this paint for print making.

Put some paint over the press-dried flowers with a small sponge or use a roller to cover the transparent plastic plate with a background colour.

What’s the point of creating such prints?, you may ask.

Well, for me it’s kind of experiment which = fun.

Having created a good print you may photograph it and use it as a design sample at any “print on demand” service and create your unique T-shirts, bags, postcards, art prints, cellphone cases etc.

I like the process of floral print making a lot!

Plan to issue a set of new postcards with these floral prints soon.
