Plein Air. Painting Spring…

While most of the artists nowdays prefer to paint abstractions in the studios - I really can not help painting outdoor.

Honestly, there is something very true, relaxing and energizing at the same time in the Plein air painting, especially if it is Spring!
I feel really good whenever I have a chance to spend 2-3 hours just by myself painting/sketching outdoors.

Spring nature is absolutely beautiful! Though this year 2021 we have a rather cold spring - fruit trees are already in bloom.

This spring (thanks God, no COVID restrictions on visiting botanical gardens/parks this year!)

So I have already opened a plein air season on April the 1st. While painting outdoor I usually do quick sketches in oil or acrylic.

This is one of them.

This time the sun was moving incredibly quickly across the sky, changing the entire scene. Could not escape glare on my painting…

One more plein air sketch, done in the morning on the river bank.

By the way, if you have never tried to paint outdoors before - these are some reasons to try it at least once..(you may pick up any paints of your choice).

  • The natural colors and forms watched during plein air session - positively recharge and calm us. Though painting outdoors is a little challenge every time.

  • You learn something absolutely new. Which is crusial for our brains. Scientists say we have to learn something new each day…

  • Several hours spent outdoors is definitely good for your complection and blood circulation.

  • The more you practicing painting outdoors - the better results you get.

  • Being in process - you somehow absorb the harmony of natural colors, its combinations and sooner or later start getting these beautiful natural shades on your palette.
